We visited the apple orchard in Dolany

Welcome to the farm in Dolany near Česká Skalice. It is the end of October, and we have set out to see how the harvest of juicy apples is going, which we offer you in the Cesta na talíř in Aramark restaurants.

On 165 hectares, over half a million apple trees grow, and more than 5 million kilograms of apples are harvested here annually. Huge numbers. Each tree bears fruit for an average of 20 years. For better pollination, a different type of apple tree is planted at the beginning of each row.

Among other things, we also learned here that thanks to climate change, even varieties that would have had to be imported from Australia 10 years ago are now thriving. Every cloud has a silver lining. To reduce traditional spraying and thus apples without unnecessary pesticide residues, they use biological protection here.

Netting protects the apples against hailstones. While in the orchard they can’t do without honest manual labor, in the sorting facility they have a semi-automatic line controlled by a computer. And now the apples from Dolany can set off on their journey to you.

Cesta na talíř

Do restaurací Aramark nakupujeme čerstvé sezónní suroviny od lokálních farmářů a pěstitelů. Pár hodin po sklizni pak připravujeme naše speciality. Snižujeme tím uhlíkovou stopu a zároveň podporujeme místní ekonomiku.
